The effects of art at work is frequently underestimated. Splashes of colour in a painting may change the disposition of a meeting space, or a bit of strange art could offer a talking point in a dull corporate area. But can art have an immediate effect on worker productivity or well-being? It appears the answer is yes.

Research by Exeter University’s School of Psychology found that workers who have control over the design and design of their workspace aren’t just happier and healthier — they are up to 32 percent more effective. The study involved over 2,000 office employees in a series of studies looking at approaches to and productivity inside functioning distance. Nevertheless, it had been two additional research, one at Exeter University and another in commercial offices that observed participants take to a succession of jobs in a workspace which was lean (bare and practical ), improved (adorned with plants and graphics ), enabled (allowing the person to design the region ) or disempowered (in which the person’s design was redesigned with a”supervisor”). This analysis found that individuals working in spaces that were enhanced (decorated with plants or art ) were 17 percent more effective than those in thin spaces.

The idea that art at work is merely cosmetic was dispelled at a poll of over 800 workers working for 32 companies across the U.S. who have office artwork collections. The poll, a cooperation of the Business Committee for the Arts and the International Association for Professional Art Advisors, attracted responses from companies which range from food vendors to law firms who home workplace collections. It found that artwork at the workplace helps businesses address key challenges like reducing anxiety (78% agree), raising originality (64% agreed) and encouraging expression of opinions (77% agreed).

A study at Cass Business School researched the perceptions of workers towards art at work and its impact on their own, the customers or company picture. Both men (64 percent ) and female (73%) respondents agreed that the plan of the office has an impact on their working day. Interestingly, male economists not only rated artwork (39 percent ) as among the most crucial elements of interior layout of their office in contrast to other components such as crops (39 percent ) or a sofa area (35 percent ), but they also give art a greater significance within an interior layout element when compared with female respondents. Just 17 percent of girls named artwork as a vital part of the interior layout.

On the other hand, the effects of art on the individual worker seeing function ethic/motivation, creativity, stress-level and standard well-being appears to be greater on women than on men. While 80 percent of the men respondents agreed that artwork has a slight influence on their job ethic/motivation; most of the female respondents agreed that it’s some impact on them. Notably, 54% of girls confessed that artwork has a moderate to large impact on their imagination in the workplace (47 percent of men) and 80 percent of the girls agreed that art in the workplace could lessen their stress-levels (66 percent of the men). Additionally, 92% of these girls said that art affects their overall well-being, compared to 71 percent of the guys.
